What’s New – Fall 2019
Seeing Spots?
If you’ve noticed unusual blemishes on the leaves of your aspen trees, you’re not alone. This year, Marssonina blight—a common fungal disease—has been particularly severe, thanks to the wet conditions we experienced in May and June. The disease manifests as dark brown to black spots, often ringed with a yellow halo, marring the vibrant green foliage. Over time, infected leaves may wither and drop prematurely, diminishing the tree’s health and aesthetic appeal.
While preventive fungicide applications can help manage the spread, there is unfortunately no cure once an infection has taken hold. To reduce future outbreaks, it’s essential to rake up and dispose of infected leaves, minimizing the presence of fungal spores that could persist into the next growing season. By taking these proactive steps, you can help protect your trees and keep your landscape looking its best.
