Overview
Zimmerman Pine Moth is a significant pest of Austrian, ponderosa, and Scotch pines in Colorado landscapes. The larvae bore into branches and trunks, causing dieback, structural weakness, and unsightly pitch masses.
Signs of Infestation
- Large pitch masses at branch whorls or on trunk
- Branch dieback and death
- Sawdust-like frass mixed with pitch
- Weakened branches that break easily
- Entry holes in bark near pitch masses
Treatment
Timing is critical for Zimmerman Pine Moth control. Treatments must be applied in late August to early September when young larvae are entering the tree. Contact Earth-Wise for professional assessment and treatment recommendations.
