Overview
Spider mites are microscopic arachnids that feed on plant cells by piercing foliage and sucking out contents. They thrive in hot, dry conditions and can cause severe damage to conifers, especially spruce trees.
Signs of Infestation
- Stippled or bronzed appearance on needles
- Fine webbing on branch tips
- Premature needle drop
- Overall decline in tree vigor
- Discoloration starting on inner, lower branches
Treatment
Early detection and treatment are essential. Miticide applications, combined with proper watering and tree care, can effectively control spider mite populations and restore tree health.
