Overview

Cooley Spruce Gall Adelgid is a small aphid-like insect that causes distinctive cone-shaped galls on the tips of spruce branches. While rarely fatal to trees, heavy infestations can significantly impact tree appearance and vigor.

Signs of Infestation

  • Pineapple-shaped galls on branch tips
  • Galls turn brown and open in late summer
  • Branch tip dieback
  • Distorted new growth
  • Reduced tree vigor with heavy infestations

Treatment

Treatment timing is critical. Applications must be made in fall or early spring when adelgids are active but before galls form. Our certified arborists can develop a treatment schedule to protect your spruce trees.
