Overview
Boxwood psyllid is a small sap-feeding insect that attacks new growth on boxwood plants. Nymphs feed on the underside of developing leaves, injecting toxic saliva that causes leaves to cup and distort. While damage is primarily aesthetic, heavy infestations can reduce plant vigor and make shrubs appear unhealthy.
Signs of Infestation
- Cupped or distorted new leaves
- Whitish or yellowish cast to foliage
- Presence of waxy white material on leaves
- Stunted shoot growth
- Overall decline in plant appearance
Treatment & Management
Horticultural oils applied in early spring can smother overwintering eggs. Insecticides timed for nymph emergence provide effective control. Regular monitoring helps catch infestations early.
